Summary
This shoreline restoration project in Bayou Grande, Escambia County, Florida, was led by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in partnership with Keep Pensacola Beautiful, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. As a medium-energy site, the project used coir fiber logs, recycled oyster shells in mesh bags, and native plants for 1000 linear feet of shoreline protection. Upland areas on shoreline were graded before installing oyster reefs, followed by planting. Plants included low emergent plants to high marsh plants and were sourced from the FDEP’s Restoration Nursery.
